October 2024:
I directed Martyna Majok’s Sanctuary City for my theater major senior capstone at the University of Portland. I picked the play because I wanted the culmination of my theater education at UP to be something bold and courageous, both artistically and socially.
Coming from an immigrant background myself, and witnessing this country’s continued mistreatment and dehumanization of immigrants, especially those undocumented, I felt it was important to use my platform to make a statement—one of our shared humanity.
